Telescoping brass tube sections are needed by makers of new instruments only. The brass horn staple is glued into the top-end of the instrument's body, to allow pitch adjustments via the telescoping reed sliding -more or less- into or out of the instrument, varying the length of the acoustical bore, resulting in pitch changes. It is the most practical way to adjust pitch when playing in ensembles.
