Kildare models have separate head and body sections with a slightly tapered bore. Pitch can be easily adjusted by pulling jointed sections in or out as needed. All Pennywhistles are diatonic instruments so many sizes are needed to play in all keys (tonalities).
The most popular sizes are in the keys of high -D- and low -G-. Whistle body sections of the same series are interchangeable with a head section of the same series. Economical sets of whistles are available in which a single head section is provided along with multiple bodies for playing in different keys.

Longer whistles can be more comfortably played with Susato Keys over tone holes too far apart for small hands. Note the Susato Keys on low -C- to low -F#- whistles, the difference in playability is enormous!
