5340 - Balladeer Model Hurdy-Gurdy, Renaissance style
$2,495.00

Our "Balladeer" model hurdy-gurdy is based on a late 15th century "Bauern-Leier" original found after world-war two. The large sounding board assures a rich and beautiful sound. Hurdy-Gurdies of Medieval and Renaissance times were mostly three-stringed instruments with a diatonic keyboard and tangents wide enough to swing to left or right not only for "fine-tuning" of keyed intervals, but wide enough for reaching a semi-tone.  A Tromba Marina like "Trumpette" string-effect was not added to hurdy-gurdies until much later during the Baroque. A hard-case and playing instructions are included. Various tunings are possible according to choice of string gauges.
